Located in Takayama-cho, Nagahama City, Shiga Prefecture, Takayama Couple Falls are beautiful waterfalls located upstream from the Kusano River flowing from Mount Kinshudake. This group of waterfalls consists of two waterfalls, Otoko-daki and Onna-daki. Otoko-daki is a straight fall with a 10-meter drop and is relatively easy to access. On the other hand, the path to Otoko-daki Falls, which has a drop of 30 meters, is overgrown with vegetation, and bears and pit vipers may be present. Although this area is accessible on foot from the Alpine Campground and is known as a great place for nature observation and forest bathing, the actual trekking is often more difficult than one might imagine. Conditions are especially challenging during rainy weather, when the volume of water in the falls increases and getting wet from splashing in front of the falls can be unavoidable.
