The Treasure Hall of Hogonji Temple on Chikubujima Island is known as an important treasure house of cultural assets in Lake Biwa. It houses valuable treasures of Hogonji Temple, such as the National Treasure "Preface to the Lotus Sutra (Chikubujima Sutra)" and the "Gokushokurai Mokuroku Tabou" (Important Cultural Property) in the hand of Kobo Daishi, and is open to the public. However, some of the items in the collection have been deposited with the National Museum of Nara and other museums, and are sometimes exhibited in other museums for special exhibitions. The highlights of the Treasure House include a number of national treasures and important cultural properties among the temple treasures, and these collections tell the story of Hogonji's long history. The wooden "Seated Statue of Benzaiten" displayed in the hall is imposing, standing over 1 meter tall, and the fading of the colors shows that it was vividly painted. Admission to the Treasure Hall is 300 yen for adults (junior high school students and older) and 250 yen for elementary school students. Preschool children are admitted free of charge.
