Famous as the "Kannon of Kawamichi" is the standing statue of the thousand-armed Kannon. This statue was created about 1,200 years ago during the Heian period (794-1192), and its imposing 179 cm height is designated as a National Important Cultural Property. However, this statue is a secret statue that is opened only every 33 years.
In the main hall, another standing image of the Thousand-Armed Kannon (Godai-butsu) is enshrined in place of the main image. This life-size statue, measuring 182 cm, was recently designated as an important cultural property after a recent survey revealed that it was created in the same period as the main image.
