Sugaura

Legend has it that Emperor Junin lived in Sugaura in 764. In addition, what is said to be his mausoleum remains on the hill behind Sugaura Shrine. In addition, the Sugaura Local Archives preserves valuable materials that describe the rules of village and fishing village life from the Kamakura period to the beginning of the Meiji period. There is a gate called "Shisoku-mon (four-legged gate)" on the east and west sides of the entrance to the village, which used to be used to watch for outsiders.
