This temple is an old temple of the Toyozan school of Shingon Buddhism and stands on a hill overlooking Lake Biwa. Built in the reign of Emperor Go-Shirakawa, the temple has undergone many changes over its long history. Many treasures that remind us of those times are preserved in the hall. The main statue of Bishamonten, a standing statue of Bishamonten, is a 53 cm tall painted statue from the Kamakura period (1185-1333) and is said to be by Unkei. The statue is designated as a National Important Cultural Property. The museum also preserves a number of historic esoteric Buddhist tools and documents, including a Sessho Box with a cakra design, a cakra, a cakra stand, a cakra, and a bronze qing with a peacock design, all inscribed in the late Muromachi period (1333-1573).
