The river begins at Ichinose and Snake Valley, located in Takayama Town, Nagahama City, Shiga Prefecture. Here, the Higashimata and Nishimata valleys merge and flow southward, passing through Iiyama-guchi and continuing southwestward to join the Anegawa River at Miyabe-cho, Nagahama City. The Kamikusano district of Nagahama City is located in the upper reaches of this river and is known for its heavy snowfall. The Kusano River Fishery Cooperative Association releases rainbow trout into this river, which is characterized by its clear current. Fishing enthusiasts can enjoy fishing in this river by paying an entry fee.
